You might have heard that sitting is the new smoking.
More and more research shows that prolonged periods of sitting is bad for your health. From increasing your risk of cancer and obesity to wreaking havoc on on your musculoskeletal system, sitting can certainly be deemed a health risk.
Dr. Graham Colditz, an expert on cancer prevention at Washington University in St. Louis, says, “Given that working adults can spend eight or more hours a day at work, the worksite is an ideal and key setting to reduce sedentary time through worksite policies or changes to the physical work environment.”
We couldn’t agree more.
We need to teach team members how to setup their physical work environment to reduce fatigue and increase productivity. We need to teach them that their bodies are designed to move. And we need to teach and encourage them to take strategic stretch/exercise breaks.
