Are You Ready for the Next Level in Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Prevention?
Well, you’ve made it to the final lesson in the MSD Prevention Workshop. I hope you’ve gotten a lot of value out of this series, and have taken away practical tips you can implement in your workplace.
If there is one takeaway from this final lesson, it’s this: we’ve talked a lot about preventing MSDs, but now you have to go take action. Think prevention and keep your focus on reducing MSD risk factors. If you do this consistently (and relentlessly) over the course of a long period of time, you will prevent MSDs and make a major difference for your organization.
Over 25 years of experience working with many, many clients, we’ve learned that a successful MSD prevention process rests on four essential pillars.
Successful MSD prevention is:
- Prevention-focused.
MSD management after the injury has already occurred is important. But by then it’s too late. Prevention will always be the best medicine, and focusing your efforts here will bring you the highest return on your resources. - Comprehensive.
The interaction between the work environment and the worker is complex, and there are many risk factors that cause MSDs. A world-class MSD prevention process is comprehensive and systematically controls all causative risk factors. - Sustainable.
MSD prevention will not be effective as a one-time event. An ongoing, systematic, process-driven approach to reducing MSD risk factors becomes more and more valuable over time. - Profitable.
A big MSD problem presents you with a big MSD prevention opportunity. An MSD prevention process that is prevention-focused, comprehensive and sustainable gains value over time, providing you with a healthy return on your investment and a major win for your organization (and your career).
By getting proactive with your process and taking action, you can make a major difference for your organization and its’ people.
